Larian Studios Unveil a Fresh Divinity, Labeling it Their Most Ambitious RPG to Date

The buzz around this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is creating a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team is likely designing a real-time experience rather than another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, branching plots, and deep class systems—elements that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of specialized paths only possible by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also famously permissive, letting players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be completed in diverse methods, often in lateral fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, players can look forward to another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
