19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.

The athlete, a former world number one, has had a challenging period, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-term coach Cervara.

Now collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, he has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden title since the Italian tournament and first on a hard court since spring of that year.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has achieved 21 victories at 21 various competitions.

"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters together, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six title deciders, including in that event previously this season.

His counter-punching strategy and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had caused commentators to wonder if his skill to play at the top level was finished.

However the player has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to come to the net and perform aggressively, supported by an improved serving game.

The champion fought back from a break down in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, taking 4 of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players traded break points in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his initial tour title, took control to create a third set.

He rescued four initial break points in a close deciding set before the champion secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev secured victory with a rally at the net area, with Moutet unable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
